On The Come Up: Unheralded Eye Openers

PHS Academy’s Chandler Mack Has Turned In Multiple Games of 35+ Points and 6+ Assists This Season

Osmar Garcia Araujo, Riviera Prep

The 6-foot-7 Class of 2023 prospect has physical maturity beyond his years. This is translatable to his array of post moves and ability to finish inside and in one on one situations with his back to the rim.

He’s equally adept at hitting the short range and mid range jumper, a facet of his game which takes rim protectors away from the paint and drags them outside.

He’s got big soft hands and a feathery touch. The South Florida native is also surfacing as a viable catch and post threat. He’s got the physical style and make-up that allows him to finish through the trees in the post.

TJ Lamb, Central Pointe Christian Academy

As far as late bloomers go, you will be hard pressed to find a recruit with a motor and multi positional tool set like Lamb.

With imposing size at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, the West Virginia native knows how to barrel his way to the rim and finish through hard contact. He’s been an active offensive rebounder and can fly in for tip ins and authoritative stickbacks.

He’s become a reliable outside shooter, sticking straight away 3-pointers and also providing a mid range presence for head coach Jaoquan Nunez.

Lamb arrived at the doorstep with college ready physicality and guards nearly every position on the floor.

His work ethic, speed/mobility at his size, and bouncy athleticism are components which make the gym rat your quintessential “safe bet” recruit at the next level of play.

The day to day grind of an around the clock prep schedule provides a tremendous portent of who can sustain competitiveness and handle the wear and tear of college basketball.

Lamb’s work rate and consistency for a program that has been playing since August (with minimal pandemic related limitations) is promising.

Chandler Mack, Pro Holmes

The high octane 6-foot-2 guard from Hollywood, Fla. has set the high standard of how to utilize the post graduate environment. A three level scorer with prodigious vertical leaping ability, Mack has finished with soaring above rim athleticism and simultaneously established himself as a three level scorer.

He’s led by example and with swagger this season, including a recent 41-point explosion in which he also doled out six assists.
A pesky on ball defender, Mack is adept at instigating turnovers and converting them into transition leakout buckets.

He’s an aggressive pick pocket threat when guarding the ball and knows how to orchestrate an offense with the high low game and transition attack.

A product of Dillard High School in South Florida, few have upped their stock in the post graduate scene like Mack.

Johannes Kirsipuu, Scotland Campus Sports–The 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard has played at a high level since he was a freshman at the talent rich Pennsylvania program.

As a freshman, he registered his presence with 43 points on the strength of 10 3-pointers against St. Augustine. As a sophomore, he willed Scotland Campus HS to a victory over Silver Oak Academy (Md.) with a 31-point performance and a personal 8-0 run during the second half.

He’s a true combination guard with a reliable outside shot and crafty attacking. He’s become a reliable on-ball defender who can come in and offer immediate contributions.

The native of Estonia and Class of 2021 true senior turned heads last season, erupting for 40 points during a win over AIM High Academy.

He’s got good concepts of the game as well. The Class of 2021 product is a consistent scorer and worker who allows the game to come to him and never forces shots. Kirsipuu brings a very battle tested veteran presence having won a USA Prep National Championship as a sophomore and represented the Estonia national team.

Edward “EJ” English, Estero High School

The 6-foot-2 Class of 2021 Guard brings a unique scoring arsenal. He can pull off aspects that you typically don’t see at the high school level, such as transition 3-pointers and shots from way, way beyond the arc.

English, who has the college ready physicality of a shot-making guard, is capable of stretching the floor out and hitting shots that are hard to guard at this level.

English possesses a natural IQ and awareness on the floor, which enables him to make heads up basketball plays and sound decisions. He can get his shot off quickly and really create for himself in his off the dribble and one on one game.
