Florida Sleepers: Continued

George Pridgett, Polk State –The transfer from University of Jacksonville is putting together a memorable sophomore year as one of the conference’s elite scoring guards. He hit transition 3-pointers, second half opportunistic 3-pointers during a comeback bid, and corner treys amid draping coverage en route to a 26 point (8-for-16 FG, 6-10 3FG) showing during an 82-77 loss to Santa Fe College this week.

Pridgett, who can stick shots from NBA range, also seemed to have a hand in everything Polk does. He wound up with a game best four steals in the loss.

Kordell Brown, Santa Fe: Brown is averaging 14.4 points on a scalding 53 percent from field goal. During a tight, 82-77 home win for Santa Fe this past week, his proficiency was evident.

He was able to grab offensive boards, barrel his way to the rim, and also step out and stick the 3-pointer.

His efficiency at the free throw line, where he was 7-of-7, was critical down the stretch. He wound up with a team best 20 points and six boards in 33 minutes.

He also had help from point guard and local Jacksonville product Jalen Speer on the glass, as Speer finished with nine rebounds.

Koby Isaac, Palm Beach State–A 6-foot-3 guard with a scoring prowess and wealth of experience, Isaac scored a game best 24 points (8-for-13 FG, 5-for-7 from beyond the confines of the arc) in leading Palm Beach State’s balanced scoring attack in a 140-97 bludgeoning of Pasco Hernandez College.

A bigger built guard with confrontational on ball pressure and the ability to disrupt the passing lanes off the ball, Isaac has solidified his status as a two way threat.

The Panthers fed off the energy of Isaac and his backcourt mates Ryan Moore and Gethro Germinal, who each added 18 points as right players finished with double figures.

Prior to this end to end blood letting of Pasco-Hernandez, Isaac scored 19 points (8-of-16 FG, 3-6 3FG) en route to an 88-81 victory over Bay College.

Isaac was able to form a radiant tandem alongside Torrin Andrews, who scored a game best 25 points on the strength of 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

Andres Burney, Eastern Florida State–Just a week after being named Region 8 Player of the Week, the 6-foot-9 Alabama native scored 14 points to go with six boards and two blocks as the 14-5 Titans gutted out a 44-42 victory over St. Petersburg. A sophomore, Burney is averaging 16.4 points, 9.7 boards, and shooting it at a scalding 58 percent from the floor.
