As a long 6-foot-4 point guard with an adept handle, three-level scoring repertoire, and confrontational one on one defense, Garwey Dual gives newly minted Providence head coach Kim English an enticing two-way presence.

At Southern California Academy this past season, Dual, who recently retained his commitment to Providence, infused Julian Von Hanzlik`s lineup with freakish displays of athleticism.

Dual authored consistent efficiency while playing an unparalleled national strength of schedule, which included several marquee matchups on the prestigious Grind Session circuit. He was a stabilizing influence for a team rife with high major bound talent, with several players sacrificing individual stats for team glory.

Dual emerged as one of the top players in the recent Nike Hoop Summit two months ago, proving himself as a dependable outside shooter.

“He’s just a terrorist on defense but he’s productive everywhere and in every category,” said Von Hanzlik.

“Whether it is scoring, defense, rebounds, there really is nothing he doesn’t effect. As a point guard, that’s tough.”

Von Hanzlik’s system is predicated on unselfishness, ball screens, and spacing. Dual transitioned instantly and set a loud tone with his dogged defensive pressure.

Dual was a revelation during the prestigious Chick-fil-A Classic back during Christmas break. He scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting and added five steals during one game. Dual also turned in a 20-point, five rebound and five steal performance during SCA’s 48-33 victory over Hillcrest Prep.

“He can flat out shoot the ball, I think a lot of guys didn’t know that early on,” said Von Hanzlik. “During four games at the Chick-fil-A, he only missed 3-4 shots.”

With crafty finishes, floaters, and an outside shot he’s added range to, Dual has written quite the rapid ascension story. He went from having nary a single offer on the table to one of the most hotly pursued recruits in the country, even amid the turubulent uncertainty of the 2023 transfer frenzy.
